Cultural Tours

Meet the Maasai, visit Mto wa Mbu village, and discover the people and traditions behind the landscapes.

Tanzania is home to more than 120 ethnic groups, each with its own language, customs and traditions. Meeting them is one of the most rewarding parts of any trip. Our cultural tours are arranged with the communities themselves, so your visit is welcomed and supports local families.

Experiences you can add

  • Maasai: visit a boma, learn about cattle, dance and beadwork, and walk with Maasai warriors.
  • Mto wa Mbu: a village walk among banana farms, local crafts and a home-cooked lunch near Lake Manyara.
  • Hadzabe and Datoga: join a morning hunt and see traditional blacksmithing at Lake Eyasi.
  • Chagga: coffee farms and caves on the slopes of Kilimanjaro at Marangu.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering about something? Our team in Arusha answers every message personally.

Are cultural visits respectful?

We work only with community-run programmes and visits arranged directly with each village. Always ask before taking photos of people.

Can I add a cultural visit to my safari?

Yes. Most visits take half a day and fit easily between parks, for example in Mto wa Mbu on the way to the Ngorongoro Crater.
